How Often Should a Childcare Centre Be Cleaned?
By Melbourne Childcare Cleaning · Published · Updated
There is no single frequency for every task
A floor in a busy entry, a food-contact bench and an unused storage shelf have different cleaning needs. Use the centre's procedures and current Staying healthy guidance to distinguish between-use cleaning, cleaning when visibly soiled, scheduled daily work and periodic detailed tasks. A contractor visit frequency alone does not define the whole hygiene program.
Allocate work during operating hours
Identify surfaces used repeatedly during meals, toileting and nappy changing. Educators and kitchen staff need an agreed method and responsibility for immediate cleaning; those tasks cannot wait for an evening contractor. Spill and body-fluid incidents require the centre's incident procedure and suitable equipment.
Set an end-of-day and periodic scope
Agree scheduled tasks for accessible floors, bathrooms, furniture, touch points and waste. Then list periodic work such as edges, behind furniture and accessible fittings separately. The timing depends on use, access, visible build-up and your site plan; it should not be guessed from another centre's schedule.
Review whether the schedule is enough
Compare completion records with recurring issues and director feedback. If the same area is not ready for opening, review the scope, allocated time and ownership rather than simply adding more tick boxes. An outbreak may require additional public-health directions; routine service frequency is not an outbreak response plan.
